Potty Ups and Downs Update

So, I appreciated everyone's helpful advice on how to avoid my home being decorated in the colors YELLOW and BROWN. Well, I do have to admit that there was a little clean up involved...of course! I HATE having to clean up that disgusting fact of life. Well, I think that Sara's idea would've worked very well, but it's already so cold here and it's too expensive to keep my home warm enough here to let her run freely through the house in the buff. While that was a great idea, I had to count that one out. Mikal suggested I pour warm water on her "yaya" (I appreciate you remembering my funny nick-names of the past by the way). I had tried that many times and I also have heard that works. With her, it was just something fun. Didn't trigger anything. She finally just figured it out once and actually went on the potty and then was more interested in it. I was so thrilled when she finally went the first time! The first day, she had a few accidents, but not too bad. Day two, she had a poop accident and made a huge mess.....hate that!....on my friend's carpet no less. I was so embarrassed, but luckily I was able to clean it all up. After that, it was just one accident after the next and I kept getting more and more angry with her. I was hoping I'd scare her into not wanting to mess up. It totally back fired in my freakin' face! Today, I made a goal to just be very happy everytime she went and not push her or saying anything negetive if she did mess up. So far, we've only had one accident the whole day and it's almost 4pm. So, positiveness and happiness work way better than negetiveness and grumpiness. I think I just made her too nervous to go on the potty yesterday. She's already to the point today where she'll tell me if she has to go rather than me constantly asking her every 10 minutes. The last thing we need to work on is her being able to distinguish the difference of just having to pass gas or actually have to pass more than that. She hasn't figured that out yet so, we've made lots of trips to the potty just so she can sit down, do a nice echoing fart and then be done. I'm so happy to be this far into it. Potty Training is so HARD!!!! I'm going to wait until she really has the hang of it before I move onto her brother. The SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS!.........do I hear an "amen"?

Good luck and glad that things are starting to go more smoothly. Potty training sucks. They should come potty trained or at like 2 it should just kick in that they have to use the potty...gonna have a talk with Heavenly Father about that when I get there! (Hopefully not anytime soon!) LOL

Carly this post is hilarious. Especially the part about the "big echoing farts" in the toilet. You are too funny! I am glad Lucy is making progress. I will have to come to you in a year or so when I am ready to start with Isaac.

Good luck Carly! Zach was a pain to potty train, it honestly took MONTHS. I never gave any advice because I don't think I really had any - especially since I know nothing about girls! I agree though, even though it's HARD, it's so much better when you are positive and don't get mad when there's an accident.

I dont know, people might think I am so wrong... but... I think they need to know that you are upset and they did wrong when they have an accident (unless they are physically incapable of holding it). Ryken was potty trained shortly after he turned two, he wanted to do it. Then when he realized how hard it was he didnt want to do it but since we had already started I made him finish the training. I would literally take him potty every half hour. He had a few bad days but when he understood that he was going to be in real trouble if he peed on the carpet or in his underwear he stopped doing it. oh and one more thing... my mom says that I was so vain as a 2 year old that all she had to do was go out and buy my the prettiest panties she could find and tell me that I could wear them but I wasnt allowed to get poo or pee in them or else I couldnt wear them any more. I was so concerned with wearing the pretty panties that I never had an accident in them... not too sure if lucy is concerned about that or not, but maybe she could pick out some panties she adores?

I think you are making great progress with her! Her pooping on your friends carpet was pretty funny from my perspective though. Im sure not for you! sorry to giggle...You can laugh at me & Nate in a few months.

AAAh!! I hate potty training. Naomi is showing interest already (she won't be 2 til Jan but since you said you did Ginny that early it gives me hope!). Savannah was 3 &1/2. Horrible. Sounds like we had similar situations. My advice is to not ever use pull-ups. Maybe at night but not during the day. Ever. I think that it just confuses them. I used plastic pants over underwear. Hate the messes and it took a good 2 weeks of accidents, but then all of a sudden she got it. We never even have overnight problems or anything. Good luck!!!

I loved the colorfulness of this story - so lovely to read about poop and pee in technicolor :)

I'm sending you Alyssa to do next.

I had such a hard time potty training Ian, we finally got that underwear/alarm system and by a month he was completely done with having any accidents at night. Hannah was a breeze (although I'm still working on getting her to wipe better!) I haven't even gotten up the nerve to try with my second boy (Rowan) yet. Good luck hon!

haha! Actually your husband found me on facebook and told me you had a blog. So give your hubby a kiss! I still have plenty of work to do on my own body before it's where I want it. Clothes hide ALOT! :) But thanks! You look fantastic Carly, but then you always have! You have a beautiful family! I'm glad to see you all doing so well!
