My House is Still Standing!

Lately my 2 year old Lucy has been showing interest in the microwave. She usually just opens and closes the door over and over again. Well, I guess this was me not seeing the dramatic scene forth coming quick enough. I am in the next room and all of a sudden I hear the microwave turn on. Well, I am one to always think worse case scenario (ex: yesterday I was in the front yard talking to a friend for just a minute and the whole time I had in the back of my head that Lucy is choking on her quesadilla in the house and I'm not in there to rescue her and she's going to die. Then I run in the house to see that she's still eating her food). I think panicing just comes with the territory of motherhood. Not to get too far from my story. Anyway, I did the panic thing and started to think if she put something in the microwave that could possibly be hazerdous. I run into the kitchen as fast as I can to all of a sudden seeing through the microwave screen that something is zapping and flashing light. I hurry and turn off the microwave. Lucy had put two glitter pens AND A REMOTE into our microwave. Yes, the remote also had batteries in it. They only heated for about 5 seconds before I got to it. It filled my kitchen with smoke and the most disgusting smell. Yes, the remote and glitter pens are history. So, I guess it's okay to think worse case scenario sometimes because you never know what children are capable of or when they will put themselves in danger and if you're not there quick enough....! I don't know if she was in any real danger like getting electricuted or causing my house to catch fire, but like I said.... I THINK WORSE CASE SCENARIO ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!

glad to know that i am not the only mom that freaks out and thinks of the worst things happening. I guess we are both normal.

I must not be normal. I don't know if I think about things Jane does enough. Even when she falls down and starts crying I catch myself telling her, 'Your just fine. Get up.' And who knows she could be bleeding or broken some where. After reading this story I think I am going to start thinking like you. I will probably save my childs life in the future.

I always think of worst case scenario, too! I'm so bad lately, that I cannot fall asleep at night because I'm running different situations through my mind of any horrible event that could happen in my life:) I totally take after my mom w/ that one! Anyway, I'm glad Little Lucy is okay and your house is still there:) I think it's great you are a cautious momma like me...now I don't feel like I'm losing it:)LOL.

Oh Carly! Good job catching her. Did you read my post about Alyssa? Those two are two peas in a pod!

Yikes. Two-year-olds can be scary! Clara is not quite two, yet I think she is a great mix of being too smart for her own good without having much of an idea of what danger is. Good job with your mom radar.

I'm glad your all OK. It's scary what can happen in only a few unattended moments. Lucy sounds like a perfect playmate for Ava...they would be dangerous together!

I am TOTALLY a worst case scenario mom. I am a HUGE worrier and I'm always thinking the "what ifs". It's terrible but at the same time I think sometimes it saves you. Sorry that your remote and glitter pens are toast, but glad your daughter is ok. :)

Nice save Carly! That is scary but you will probably be able to look back and laugh. I am glad everyone is okay. And I'm glad that Isaac can't reach the microwave yet!

Is that what I have to look forward to??? Yikes!

Wow! Glad everyone is okay. I am such a worrier too. Thought I got it from my mom, but maybe it is a female/mom thing. I watched a show about certain foods that you shouldn't put in the microwave and grapes is one of them. Wierd huh?

I'm exactly the same way...I'm a "worst-case-scenario" woman =). Our baby's only 6 months old now but I fear that I may turn out to be the annoying overly-protective parent because of my worries...lol!
